A Duchesne County Deputy was patrolling West on US-40 near milepost 63 in the Fruitland area when a white Chevy Impala traveling East what the deputy believed to have the suspect for a stolen vehicle case.

As the deputy was passing the vehicle, he could see the female suspect in the driver's seat and that the vehicle's running lights were not on. The deputy caught up to the car and initiated a traffic stop.

When Cpl. Cox approached the vehicle and confirmed the driver was, in fact, 26-year-old Kristy Marie Hatton. Kristy is also on probation with Adult Probation and Parole.

Kristy was asked to exit the vehicle, and the deputy asked her about the stolen vehicle case and if she had anything illegal on her. Kristy stated that she didn't have anything on her but admitted to having a meth pipe and two tooter pipes/straws in her bag on the front seat.

Kristy was then arrested for vehicle theft.

Cpl. Cox began a search of the vehicle and found her bag. In the bag was a small box that had another container that had clear baggies with white residue, a piece of tin foil with a black tar substance consistent with heroin, and two heroin tooter pipes with residue. A pipe was also located in a cloth on the side of the driver’s seat that had meth inside.

The deputy asked Kristy when she last used any of the drugs found, and she said a couple of hours ago. She stated that she used both meth and heroin.

Kristy was transported to the Duchesne County Jail, where the standard field sobriety tasks (SFSTs) were conducted.

Before beginning the tasks, Cpl. Cox asked Kristy if she was taking any medications, and she replied that she was not. She was also asked if she has any medical or physical problems, and she said she does not.

Based on the deputy's observations from the SFSTs and Kristy's admission of drug use from that morning, Cpl. Cox determined that she was under the influence of drugs while operating and in actual physical control of a motor vehicle.

Kristy signed the consent form for Sgt. Thompson, who is a certified Phlebotomist to draw her blood. The blood was sealed in an evidence kit to be sent off for testing.

Kristy Hatton was booked into the Duchesne County Jail for DUI of drugs, possession of controlled substances, heroin and meth, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Kristy also has prior felony drug convictions within the last 7 years, and her current possession offenses are felonies.

On 12/29/24, Deputy Clyde was dispatched to the Big G gas station in Fruitland to investigate a vehicle theft. The victim had left his car there and was informed by a store employee that it had been taken.

The victim stated that the car stolen was a 1979 brown Ford Fairmont sedan and told the deputy the store employees had security camera video of it being stolen.

Deputy Clyde met with the employee and reviewed the camera footage of the incident on the night of 12/22/24.

In the video, a white tow truck enters the gas station's parking lot and parks at the gas pumps. The truck sits stationary for approximately 38 minutes before two individuals, later identified as 31-year-old Cody Robert Dudleston and 26-year-old Kristy Marie Hatton, exit the truck and walk into the store.

The two exit the store and get back into the tow truck. Eventually, the truck backs around where the victim's car was parked. The tow truck sits stationary next to the victim's car for about 40 minutes before it moves again to the store's parking lot, which is empty of other vehicles.

The truck pulls forward and then backs up to the 1979 Ford Sedan. In the video, Cody gets out of the tow truck to lower the flatbed. He then hooks a winch to the car, winching it onto the tow trucks flat bed, and secures the car with a chain. Cody gets back in the truck, leaves the gas station, and turns East on US-40.

Using the video and photos taken of the security camera video, Cody Dudleston and Kristy Hatton were quickly identified as the suspects in the incident by several other Deputies. The white tow truck was also identified as belonging to Cody Dudleston, who had recently been seen at a property on Strawberry River Rd, where Cody was known to be living.

Deputy Clyde and other Deputies went to the property where Cody was staying and attempted to locate Cody and Kristy but were unable to speak with them.

Deputy Clyde submitted for a search warrant of the property, which was approved and served on that same day.

While serving the search warrant, the stolen car was located on the property and recovered. Unfortunately, the front end of the car had been damaged and spray-painted black. A drill had also damaged the ignition in an attempt to start the vehicle without a key.

On 12/31/24, Cpl. Cox arrested Kristy Hatton and spoke with her about the stolen vehicle. She claimed they talked to the cashier at the gas station, who said they wanted the car towed.

Deputy Clyde knew that was false because he spoke with the store employees, who stated they knew the victim was coming back to get the car.

After Kristy was arrested, she became emotional and said something along the lines of she told Cody not to take the car.
