Driver Slapped During McDonald’s Parking Lot Confrontation

Vernal, Utah (6/14/26)—A man in the McDonald’s parking lot approached a vehicle and struck its window while verbally confronting the driver inside.
Vernal City Police Officers, Cpl. Nielsen and Officer Beatty responded to the scene, with Officer Beatty arriving first and detaining a 57-year-old man named Raymond Logan Kennedy in handcuffs.
While handcuffed, Raymond attempted to walk away, repeatedly telling Officer Beatty to “Fuck off.”
Upon Cpl. Nielsen’s arrival, he assisted in escorting Raymond to the patrol vehicle.
Cpl. Nielsen spoke with the victim, who explained that Raymond had approached his window while he was parked at McDonald's, yelling at him and reaching into the vehicle while making threats.
As the victim began to pull away, Raymond reached through the window and slapped him across the face. The victim tried to leave, but Raymond continued to shout and create a disturbance.
Cpl. Nielsen tried to question Raymond, but he insisted he was “conducting his own investigation.”
Officer Candelas reviewed video evidence showing Raymond hitting the victim.
Raymond Kennedy was subsequently taken to the Uintah County Jail, where he was charged with simple assault, a class B offense, and disorderly conduct, categorized as an infraction.
