At around 3:00 am, Officer Maughan watched a male walking in the middle of the road between two crosswalks near 100 South Vernal Ave. The officer stopped the male, who identified himself as 19-year-old Shane Anthony Cords.

While the officer spoke with Shane, he noticed that his eyes were glossy and could detect the odor of alcohol on his breath.

When Officer Maughan asked Shane why he was jaywalking, he stated, "I was hoping to be stopped by law enforcement to get a ride home."

Shane said that he had been walking in the roadway since Stone Hollow, which is located at 1010 North Vernal Avenue, over a mile away.

Shane told the officer he had a firearm on his person. He asked Shane how much he had to drink, and Shane stated quite a bit and admitted to being 19. He said he had 2-3 beers and felt a "little tipsy."

Later, Shane told the officer he had drunk quite a bit with multiple beers and a shot of whiskey. Shane stated that he had been drinking at a concert and he had also smoked some marijuana.

Shane was placed into handcuffs, and it was found that he did have a handgun concealed in his waistband with five live rounds of ammunition in the magazine.

Shane was then transported to the Uintah County Jail. Shane Cords may post bail in the amount of $920.00.
