On May 16th, police received a call regarding an intoxicated male causing a disturbance at McDonald’s, but the man had left before police arrived.
On May 17th, just after 12:30 PM, 65-year-old Wayne Ussery called dispatch several times, stating he was cold, lost, and needed blankets but would not provide his location.
Deputies Russell and Roth searched areas Wayne was known to frequent and located his bicycle and cart in a bush in the area of 950 North 500 East.
Over the next few hours, Wayne called dispatch 22 times, yelling profanities such as You stupid motherfuckers. You fucking idiots. God, you're fucking stupid, and then hung up, calling and laughing when asked his location.
At approximately 3:45 AM, Wayne called 9-1-1 again, yelling at dispatchers. The two deputies returned to the area and could hear Wayne on the phone with dispatch.
Deputies Russell and Roth found Wayne hiding under a tree and handcuffed him.
While Wayne was being escorted to a patrol vehicle, he became aggressive and sat on the ground while Deputy Roth went to get his patrol vehicle. Wayne was on the ground, lying on his left side, and when Deputy Russell went to help him up, Wayne kicked the deputy in the leg.
While trying to secure Wayne with a seat belt, he attempted to bite Deputy Russell’s ring finger.
Deputy Roth transported Wayne to the hospital, and at the hospital, while Deputy Roth was escorting Wayne into the facility, he fell due to intoxication. While on the ground, he kicked the deputy.
