Vernal City Police responded to a property damage call at 350 North 100 West, where it was reported that a fence had been damaged by a vehicle that had crashed into it.

Officer Webb arrived on scene and made contact with the male in the driver seat, 43-year-old Coty John Porter. She asked Coty if he had anything to drink, and he stated that he had two or three shots.

While in the ambulance, Coty changed it to five or six shots and said, "I shouldn't have been driving."

Coty was transported to Ashley Regional Medical Center for further medical evaluation. While being evaluated by medical staff, his vehicle was inventoried.

During the inventory of Coty's vehicle, a grinder with a leafy substance inside was suspected to be bud marijuana, a wax-like substance- suspected THC marijuana in an "El Sol LABS" container, a clear container with a wax-like substance suspected THC marijuana, a glass pipe with burnt residue, five THC cartridges, a metal scraper tool, and a burnt "roach" were found in his vehicle. Coty told medical staff that he had recently smoked marijuana.

Officer Webb determined that Coty was under the influence of alcohol, any drug, or the combined influence of alcohol and any drug to a degree that rendered him incapable of safely operating a vehicle.

Coty failed to maintain his lane of travel, driving over the sidewalk and hitting a fence post. He was then placed in handcuffs and taken to the Uintah County Jail.
