(Vernal, Ut. 2/24/2026) On Tuesday at approximately 2:42 PM, Cpl. McCurdy was called back to the Vernal Police Department to meet with AP&P Agent Barnes, who stated that one of his probationers, 43-year-old Shayla K. Hone, had forged documents that were turned in to the Uintah County Drug Court.
The agent told Cpl. McCurdy, Shayla, has to obtain either 40 work hours per week or 20 hours of community service. This is part of Shayla's stipulations with Drug Court and probation.
According to Agent Barnes, a time sheet was submitted that differed from the one submitted to the Uintah County Drug Court. Agent Barnes stated he had been speaking with the Uintah County Attorney's Office regarding this case. Because Agent Barnes is Shayla's probation officer, the case was turned over to the Vernal City Police Department.
Cpl. McCurdy went to the staffing company, which told him they had received an email from Shayla containing two separate time sheets. The first attached time sheet listed Thursday, February 19, 2026, for 4.5 hours. The second attachment showed the same time sheet information for Monday, February 16, 2026, through Friday, February 20, 2026.
The staffing company told the officer that Shayla was scheduled for only one day, Thursday, February 19, 2026, as a flagger, and that the only hours worked were 4.5. The flagging job was only for two days, Wednesday and Thursday. Both separate time sheets submitted to the staffing company by Shayla have the same listed company name, address, job title, and employee name.
Shayla listed out on the time sheet as follows to the staffing company:
Monday 02/16/2026 8.5 hours
Tuesday 02/17/2026 8.5 hours
Wednesday 02/18/2026 7.5 hours
Thursday 02/19/2026 4.5 hours
Friday 02/20/2026 8.5 hours
Total Hours: 37.5 hours
The officer contacted the Uintah County Drug Court, which provided a time sheet submitted by Shayla. This timesheet contradicts the one submitted to the staffing company.
Time sheet submitted to Drug Court:
Monday 02/16/2026 8 hours
Tuesday 02/17/2026 8 hours
Wednesday 02/18/2026 7 hours
Thursday 02/19/2026 4.5 hours
Friday 02/20/2026 8 hours
Total Hours: 40 hours
Shayla had erased portions of the hours and changed all the dates' hours to show 8 hours. Later in the day, Cpl. McCurdy spoke with Shayla by telephone. Shayla alleged she only submitted the correct 4.5-hour time sheet to the staffing company, even though she was confronted about the two time sheets. Shayla alleged she did not alter the time sheet that turned into Drug Court.
Shayla was confronted about the time sheets having the same information, except for the difference in hours worked. Shayla alleged the time sheet submitted to Drug Court was for a side job she had completed hours earlier. The time sheet submitted to Drug Court can be seen with eraser marks from previous numbers.
Shayla defrauded the Drug Court by turning in a time sheet for hours not actually worked, by altering it, contradicting what she had turned in to the staffing company. On Wednesday, February 25, 2026, Shayla was taken into custody at Eighth District Court during Drug Court by Uintah County Sheriff's Office Bailiffs / Deputies and transported to the Uintah County Jail.
