A Vehicle Passes A Man On A Bicycle Traveling On Center Street In Duchesne, Causing Him To Wreck

| Duchesne, Ut. | July 16th, 2024 |

Sgt. Weeks with the Duchesne County Sheriff’s Department was dispatched to the Family Dollar on Main Street on a disorderly conduct.

Through interviews and investigation, it was determined that a few moments before this incident, the arrestee, 18-year-old Chazz Delmore Johnson, had been riding his bike Northbound on Center Street on the West side of the street. He reached the intersection with a green crossing light, and Chazz began riding across the intersection.

About the time Chazz reached the sidewalk on the North side of the street, a white pickup passed closely behind him. Chazz wrecked on the bicycle and went over the handlebars, sustaining some road rash on his arms and torso. Chazz called his friend and fellow defendant, Justis Stecks, to pick him up. Justis and Chazz saw a white pickup at the Family Dollar and pulled in.

Chazz and Justis then began to yell at the driver in the white truck that they believed hit Chazz and then fled the scene. The driver told Chazz that he didn't hit him and didn't try to flee anywhere. Chazz and Justis continued to yell at the driver, and a small crowd gathered and joined in on the yelling.

The other two truck occupants came out of the Family Dollar, and Chazz and Justis began to confront and yell at them. They told Chazz the same thing the driver had told Chazz. They had not hit him and had been in the far lane, not near Chazz. Chazz threatened them by saying things like he would get his friends in the Hell's Angels to get them.

At that point, the passenger of the white truck told Chazz he wasn't the one to come at and that he would "end" Chazz.

Chazz then pulled a fixed-blade knife from his right hip and said something to the effect of "You want to come at me?"

Chazz did not raise nor point the knife at the passenger or wave it around but had it down by his side. Realizing how serious the situation had escalated, all parties stopped and began de-escalating, and the passenger called 9-1-1.

When Sgt. Weeks arrived, Chazz told him what had happened and admitted to pulling the knife. Chazz stated he wasn't even sure that the truck had hit him and possibly just wrecked.

Justis was cited for disorderly conduct and Chazz was arrested for brandishing and disorderly conduct.

While searching, Chazz's marijuana was located in the pocket of his pants. There was also a vape pen in Chazz's pocket, which he said was Dab.

Chazz was transported and booked into the Duchesne County Sheriff's Jail.
