A Uintah County Woman Arrested For DUI, Meth, and Selling Fentanyl

4/22/24

| Whiterocks, Ut. | April 15th, 2024 |

At approximately 8:30 pm, the Uintah/Ouray Happy Trails Task Force was out patrolling the area when a Jeep Liberty turned off 10000 North. A check of the vehicle's registration showed no insurance.

The Jeep turned around and headed in the opposite direction of the agents. The agents turned around to catch up to the vehicle and conduct a traffic stop when the Jeep quickly accelerated to 60 mph in a 35 mph zone. The Jeep came to a stop in the area of 5500 E and 10000 N, Whiterocks, Ut.

As the vehicle stopped, a female got out and started walking toward a house and was advised to stop. TFO Simper recognized the female as 62-year-old Wanda Warden.

Wanda was told she had a warrant and was being detained. She stated she had no insurance on the Jeep and knew they were the police, which is why she was driving that fast.

Wanda was advised of her rights per Miranda, and she verbalized her understanding. It was observed that Wanda was frantic and had uncontrolled body movements. Her pupils were constricted and bloodshot. It was also observed that her tongue was flicking, and she had tremors in her facial muscles.

Wanda was asked when the last time she used meth and Wanda stated this morning, and she said she had used fentanyl about an hour ago. Wanda was asked how many fentanyl pills she uses a day. She stated 4-5.

TFO Simper asked if there was anything in the vehicle, and she stated there is some tinfoil with a partially burned fentanyl pill. Wanda was then advised she would be going to jail.

TFO Watkins and Harrison searched the vehicle and found multiple pieces of tinfoil with burned black trails.

Wanda was informed of the opinion she was impaired to the point she was not safe to operate a motor vehicle. Wanda stated she had a tooter pen in her bra that she used to smoke fentanyl with and handed it to TFO Watkins.

Wanda admitted to having a glass vial in her bra as well as 20 fentanyl pills. The vial was later removed at the jail. TFO Watkins transported Wanda to the UBMC for a blood draw and medical clearance. The DUI admonition was read, and Wanda consented to a blood draw.

Officer McGaha had arrived at the hospital to bring a blood draw kit. He then transported Wanda to the Uintah County Jail, where she was again asked if she had any contraband on her person, and she stated no.

Prior to being scanned in the jail, Wanda was asked if she had anything in her bra. Wanda reached her hand in her bra and said nothing. Deputy Boren could hear plastic ruffling. When confronted, Wanda pulled three bags from her bra. Two bags had suspected methamphetamine, and the other had 48 fentanyl pills. These items were turned over to the deputy.

Wanda was reminded of her Miranda Rights and was asked about the sale of fentanyl pills. Wanda admitted to conducting small deals with multiple people, selling each pill for $15. A review of Wanda's criminal history was pulled, and prior distribution of controlled substances was found.
