Officer Escobedo was dispatched to Walmart on a shoplifting detail. The complainant, who is a Walmart Asset Protection Employee, stated that a suspect in a shoplifting case he's been working on was at the store. The call notes also contained the vehicle's license plate number.
A records check was performed on the suspect vehicle, and the registered owner returned as 51-year-old Katherine Reva Crosthwaite.
When Officer Escobedo entered the store, he was met by the complainant, who identified Katherine.
Kathrine refused to give the officers her driver's license but gave them her name, date of birth, and social security number.
Officer Escobedo watched the surveillance footage from August 29, 2024. The video shows Katherine and a second female inside Walmart with two full grocery carts.
Katherine purchased a couple of items but failed to purchase all the contents within the grocery carts. Katherine passed all points of sale with the two grocery carts filled with unpaid merchandise.
The complainant stated that, according to receipts from that day, Katherine only paid for $7 worth of items but walked out with approximately $900 worth of items.
While Officer Escobedo was speaking with Katherine, she became belligerent, shouting and cursing at him and other officers on scene. Officers told Katherine to stop her behavior, but she continued to shout and curse at them.
Katherine was placed under arrest and transported to the Uintah County Jail, where she was booked under the following charges:
Shoplifting - Value $500 > $1500
Disorderly Conduct After Request to Cease
The charge of Shoplifting was enhanced to a Class A misdemeanor for theft exceeding $500 but less than $1500.
