Roosevelt City Police were dispatched to the Roosevelt Golf Course where an employee reported that a group of males came into the Clubhouse, and one of them was drunk and smelled of alcohol.
Police arrived, and the employee told them they recognized the drunk male as 19-year-old Kason Lee Shearwood. The employee stated that the two males left where they had met up with another group of males, who were seen putting beer into the back of a golf cart and heading toward the back nine.
Officers borrowed a golf cart and went searching for the group, and made contact with them.
While the officers were approaching, Kason was seen hunched over, sitting in one of the golf carts.
Officer Bellon asked if he was Kason, and he only rocked back and forth, saying he was fine. The officer could smell a strong odor of alcohol emitting from Kason and observed that his pupils were enlarged, which is unusual considering it was daylight.
Kason was asked to exit the golf course, where he struggled to stand on his own. He seemed very confused and incoherent about what was going on around him, and kept repeating that he was fine when asked his name.
Kason was arrested and placed in handcuffs behind his back. He had to be helped into the golf cart so that he didn’t fall.
Kason was transported to the Uintah Basin Medical Center for a medical clearance. Officer Bellon asked him how much he had to drink, and Kason said he couldn't remember and said it was too much.
Kason was asked if he had anything else besides alcohol, and he stated that he had taken some mushrooms. The officer wanted Kason to blow into a PBT to check his blood alcohol. He agreed, but was unable to do so because he couldn't understand the officer's directions and was feeling sick.
During questioning, Kason was unable to recall how he had arrived at the golf course or what had happened there.
Mr. Shearwood was then transported to the Duchesne County Jail to be booked for Unlawful Consumption and Intoxication. He was later released.
