A Neighbor Is Woken To A Female Screaming Followed By A Gunshot

Vernal, Utah—On March 22^nd, 2026, a neighbor called the police, saying he was woken up by a female screaming, followed by a gunshot.

Responding officers arrived and met with the complainant, who directed the police to a backyard of the townhouses at 1300 S 500 E, where he saw a female and 31-year-old Darius Antillon physically fighting.

Officers made entry through the back door and found Darius on top of the victim on the kitchen floor. They pulled him off the victim, placed him in handcuffs, and he was removed from the residence by officers.

A spent casing was found just outside the back door on the right side of the porch on the ground. The spent casing matched the rounds located later in a firearm that was confirmed to belong to Darius. Video footage later provided by the victim showed Darius pointing the same handgun at the victim during the incident.

Multiple other neighbors had reported hearing screaming and the gunshot. Two witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots; another stated it sounded like fireworks. The complainant told police he only heard one gunshot and could tell it was from a small-caliber handgun.

The man who called the police said he witnessed Darius beating the female in their backyard, and watched him uppercut the female on the chin.

Deputy Young examined the female and noticed she had visible wounds that were lightly bleeding on her wrist and hand. She also had injuries on her back, arms, and head consistent with being punched.

Darius stated that he had drunk way more than usual and had several alcoholic beverages at the bar. He later admitted that he was too intoxicated to recall the incident, but confirmed that he would have to be very upset to have produced and fired a firearm.

Darius was found to have THC vape pens on his person. Several other items, including marijuana, THC vape cartridges, and drug paraphernalia, were located after conducting a search warrant on the residence. Several packages addressed to Darius were located with suspected marijuana residue inside. These packages were located next to the other marijuana and drug paraphernalia items.
