A Uintah County Deputy was dispatched near the Pebble Acres Subdivision for a domestic disturbance. Upon Deputy Roth's arrival, the female victim came out of the house upset and provided officers with two kitchen knives.
The victim stated that her boyfriend, 44-year-old Anthony Andrew Acosta, held the knives to her throat.
Officers entered the residence and located Acosta in the back bedroom with their one-year-old child.
The officers could detect the odor of alcohol coming from Acosta, and he was slurring his words.
Acosta was detained and placed in the back of a patrol vehicle, where he was read his Miranda Rights. He admitted to pointing a kitchen knife at the victim and saying he felt his past was creeping up on him, causing him to feel like the victim was against him.
Deputy Roth interviewed the victim, who stated that earlier that night, they had some friends over, and Acosta was drinking alcohol. After their friends left, a female friend told the victim that Acosta inappropriately touched her.
The victim confronted Acosta about this, which angered him. Acosta grabbed two kitchen knives and yelled at the victim, accusing her of betraying him for not taking his side.
The argument continued into the bedroom, where their child was sleeping. Acosta held both knives, pointing them at the victim, threatening to hurt her for going against him. Acosta took one of the knives and ran it across the victim’s forehead, over her head, down her face, and across her neck.
He began to drag the knife down her torso when he dropped the knife. Acosta told the victim to pick up the knife while holding the other knife in the other hand. As the victim picked up the knife, officers knocked on the door.
The victim convinced Acosta that it was their friends at the door and talked him into giving her the other knife so their friends wouldn't see him that way. The victim then ran to the front door to meet with the officers.
The current offense is a felony committed while on probation or parole or while free on bail awaiting trial on a previous felony charge. Anthony is on Federal probation and is not supposed to be consuming alcohol, and the current charges contain a Felony person-on-person crime.
It is believed that Anthony would constitute a substantial danger to the victim. Deputy Roth’s reasoning for this is that the victim reported that Anthony has threatened to harm or kill her or her family on multiple occasions, and this type of behavior has led Anthony to become paranoid that people are out to get him.
Anthony has made the statement that if he was to ever go to jail in an incident because of the victim, when released, he would find a way to hurt her.
