A Uintah County Deputy performed a records check on a vehicle that passed him on US-40 in Ballard. The records check revealed that the vehicle's insurance status was out of service; request proof of insurance.

After catching up to the vehicle, Deputy O’Donnal initiated a traffic stop at 600 East 200 North in Roosevelt.

While speaking with the occupants, the passenger wasn't wearing his seat belt. The deputy asked him for his identification, and he stated he didn't have it. The deputy asked for his name, and the male got on his phone, ignoring his questions.

The male passenger would avoid eye contact while talking to the deputy and seemed nervous about police presence.

The passenger eventually identified himself as Brian Hackford, but Deputy O’Donnal suspected he was lying about his name and returned to his patrol vehicle to conduct a records check to confirm his identity.

The male passenger jumped out of the vehicle and began running from the traffic stop. Deputy O’Donnal instructed him to stop, but he kept running eastbound through the parking lot of Davis Food and Drug.

A foot chase began, and several commands were made to get the male to stop running. The deputy caught the male and put him into handcuffs behind his back.

47-year-old Michael Brian Hackford stated he ran because he had warrants for his arrest.

Brian was transported to the Uintah County Jail and booked for his two no-bail warrants, Failure to stop at the Command of Law Enforcement, and Failure to Wear a seatbelt.
