(Uintah County-3/2/2026) While on patrol, Officer Silcox caught a 2019 Nissan Frontier driving 11 MPH over the posted speed limit and failing to maintain in its lane of travel. Hence, the officer pulled the vehicle over.
The officer walked up to the window and right away saw a clear glass pipe used to smoke meth in plain view in the middle console. The driver was then detained and identified as 32-year-old Donald Gerald Nathaniel Coles by his Virginia driver's license.
While Officer Silcox searched the vehicle, multiple scales were located, several torches, multiple cell phones, and another torch that was right next to the meth pipe. Also found was a user amount that appeared to be methamphetamine. Also located in the vehicle were two large sandwich bags that were full, containing large quantities of a white crystal substance consistent with meth.
Inside the vehicle, there were also weapons located with live rounds chambered. The first weapon that was located was a 9mm pistol; the second weapon was a shotgun that had loaded rounds in the chamber.
A Social Security card and birth certificate were found in the vehicle, both containing names that did not match his Virginia-issued driver's license. Donald also had a debit card in his wallet that was not in his name.
Based on the clues Officer Silcox observed during the SFSTs, Donald's driving pattern, and his very nervous actions while the officer was at the window during his initial approach, Officer Wilcox believed that Donald was too impaired to be operating his vehicle on the highway.
Donald's ability to follow instructions on every test was very poor. Donald appeared to be very nervous and fidgety. He was also very shaky and could not maintain his train of thought.
Donald initially said he was coming from Arizona. He then said he was from Pennsylvania, he had a Virginia-issued driver's license, and the license plate displayed on the vehicle was out of Virginia. Donald also has had a previous conviction for felony eluding police in another state.
Donald was transported to the Uintah County Jail, where he was booked on the following charges. Because of his prior distribution convictions, all of his drug charges will be enhanced.
Possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute. F1
Possession of a controlled substance, Schedule I/II analog. F3
Restricted person with a dangerous weapon x2. F3
Unlawful possession of a financial card. F3
Unlawfully carrying a firearm in a vehicle. MB
Unlawful possession of another’s ID documentation X2. MA
Use or possession of drug paraphernalia. MB
Driving under the influence of a controlled substance. MB
Because of Donald's extensive criminal history, his inconsistent comments, his saying he was from multiple different places, and his story changing multiple times, he also made a comment in jail that he wanted to get out of here as soon as possible. Officer Silcox believed that Donald was a flight risk and would flee the area if released from jail.
