On Thursday, an employee from Basin Sports called Central Dispatch, stating that a male had stolen a 3-inch knife and left on a bicycle.

The male was described as a heavier-set male, approximately in his forties to fifty, wearing a blue hat, white tank top, and red shorts. The bicycle had a rack with a shopping bag hanging from it. While officers were responding to the area, dispatch advised that the male entered Davis Food and Drug, located at 575 West Main Street.

Officer McCurdy arrived at Davis Food and Drug and was directed by the complainant to a bicycle outside of the grocery store. The bike had a rack and shopping bag hanging from the handlebars.

The officer entered the store and found a male exiting the restroom, matching the description. The male was detained in handcuffs, and a pat down was conducted for weapons. An object was felt inside the male's front pocket that made the officer believe it was a knife.

The male provided consent to retrieve the item from his front right pocket. The item was a pocket knife with a Basin Sports bar tag.

His Utah Identification card identified The male as 55-year-old Donald Samuel Wade.

Donald denied not purchasing the knife at Basin Sports, claiming to have a receipt, but couldn't provide a receipt for the purchase.

Officer McCurdy went to Basin Sports to watch the security footage of the theft. Donald is seen arriving on the bicycle before walking to the table outside of Basin Sports for their tent sale. Donald is observed grabbing a knife off the table and concealing it under his wallet. Donald then leaves a short time later without entering the store and purchasing the knife.

Donald was arrested for retail theft but didn't have anyone who could come retrieve his bicycle. Therefore, an inventory search was conducted of Donald's belongings associated with his bicycle.

During the search of Donald's belongings, multiple drug-related items were located. A broken glass pipe with suspected methamphetamine inside the tube portion of the pipe. Two plastic bags with suspected methamphetamine were also located in Donald's belongs, along with multiple types of lighters.

Donald was then transported and booked into the Uintah County Jail.

Donald Wade was later released.
