The complainant, 43-year-old Alvin Ray Jones, informed 9-1-1 that his wife had flashed a bread knife at him, and then told the dispatcher he had been drinking a little, and then hangs up the phone.
Deputy Simmons was dispatched to the domestic violence incident in the Jensen, Utah area, and when he arrived, he met with Alvin's wife. She stated that she and Alvin had gotten into a verbal altercation, and then Alvin left the residence in his car.
Upon further speaking with Alvin's wife, she told the deputy he had been drinking most of the day when Alvin became upset with her. Alvin had backed her into a corner of their kitchen, placed his hand at the same level as her throat without touching her, and made the statement of how he had been trained to kill people.
Alvin's wife, now known as the victim, told Deputy Simmons it was around the same time her juvenile daughter entered the kitchen and witnessed what was going on. The victim said after this happened, Alvin grabbed another bottle of beer, opened it, and stated how he wanted to smash it over the victim's head and watch her bleed.
While this happened, the juvenile female began recording with her cell phone.
During the altercation, Alvin began to threaten the juvenile and continued to make threats concerning the victim's other children. It was at this point the victim retrieved a serrated bread knife and told Alvin not to threaten her children.
Once the victim placed the knife back where she got it from, Alvin then walked towards her again. The victim described stretching out her arm and telling Alvin he was in her space and needed to go. Shortly after the incident Alvin gathered some items and left the residence in his car.
The deputy asked the victim if she felt she could not leave at any time during the altercation. The victim informed me there were moments when she felt she could not leave, or else things would have gotten worse.
After Alvin left the residence, he contacted central dispatch.
While speaking with the victim, she was able to track Alvin's movements with a phone tracking app she had on her iPhone. In order for someone to track your phone's location with this app, you have to allow it on your device previously.
The victim voluntarily provided Deputy Simmons with this information, which allowed him to observe that Alvin's phone had stopped at the Comfort Inn and Suites. Deputy Simmons then left the residence and responded to the Comfort Inn and Suites.
Vernal City Officer Norton was able to locate Alvin in the hotel lobby at 2396 West US 40 in Vernal. Deputy Simmons arrived and met Alvin outside the hotel and asked him to tell him what had happened at his home.
Alvin would only tell the deputy that he and the victim got into a verbal altercation, so he left. While speaking with Alvin, the deputy could smell the distinct odor of alcohol coming from his person. After Alvin had not provided Deputy Simmons with any more information from his side of the story, Alvin was informed that he was under arrest.
After Alvin was transported to the Uintah County Jail, he provided a Portable Breath Test Sample, which showed a positive indication of alcohol at a level of .166BrAC.
Alvin Jones was transported to the Uintah County Jail, proceeded to book him in on the following charges:
