A Male Turns To Violence When Told No When Asking For Sex

Vernal City Police responded to a domestic incident that had taken place at the Sage Motel located at 54 West Main Street. It was reported that the male had taken the victim’s phone and hit her.

When Officer Maughan arrived on the scene and met with the victim who said 37-year-old Christopher Arthur Pankey had hit her in the face and pushed her by the neck.

The victim stated that Christopher was asking for sex, and when he was told no, he grabbed the victim's phone and refused to give it back. The victim stated she was trying to call the police when Christopher took her phone.

The victim told the officer while she was trying to get her phone back, Christopher hit her in the face, grabbed her neck, and pushed her away. Christopher took a pot of hot water and threw it on the victim.

While Officer Maughan was speaking with Christopher, he could smell the odor of alcohol emitting from his breath. When Christopher was asked about taking the victim's phone, he replied that the phone had never left the room. When asked about putting the victim's phone in his pocket, he said that he had. Christopher also admitted to taken the phone before the physical altercation.

The victim told the officers that she and Christopher used to live together and were previously in a relationship.

Officer Maughan saw that there were two children in the room where the altercation took place. He also noticed that the victim had red marks on her face that were consistent with someone being hit. She also had red marks on her arms where Christopher grabbed her.

It was determined there was probable cause to arrest Christopher Pankey for Assault (Domestic Violence); this was due to Christopher hitting the victim in the face. Domestic Violence in the Presence of a Child X2: this was due to Christopher committing an assault on a cohabitant in the same room as two children that he knew were there.

Damage/Interrupting a Communication Device: this was due to Christopher taking the victim's phone and committing an assault while taking it.

Intoxication: this was due to Christopher being intoxicated to the point where he was a danger to himself and others.

Christopher was then handcuffed and transported to the Uintah County Jail to be booked on the charges.

Christopher Pankey may post bail in the amount of $3,280.00.
