A vehicle traveling East on Main Street in Duchesne went to make a left turn onto Center Street but failed to signal. Deputy Cox initiated a traffic stop at 250 North Center Street.
Upon approaching the vehicle, Deputy Cox asked the driver for his ID. The deputy also recognized the male passenger as 53-year-old Mark Pressley Glover.
Mark had a torch lighter in his hands, commonly used for drugs. The driver stated that she didn't have her ID on her and identified herself as 25-year-old Kristy Marie Hatton.
While Deputy Cox spoke with Kristy, she appeared nervous, had pasty skin, and was sweating, which are common indicators of drug use. Kristy was asked to exit the vehicle to speak with the deputy.
The deputy advised Kristy of the drug indicators he was seeing, and she admitted to using meth the day before. Kristy said she didn't have anything in the vehicle and did not consent to a search, and then later stated that she is on probation for drug use.
Deputy Cox approached the passenger side of the vehicle, spoke with Mark, and told him that Kristy had admitted to drug use and asked if he had anything in the vehicle. Mark admitted to having meth in his backpack in the back seat.
Mark was also asked to exit the vehicle, and the deputy had him retrieve his backpack.
Deputy Cox then conducted a search of the backpack and found a black pouch that Mark stated his meth would be in. Inside of the pouch were multiple glass pipes with white crystal and burnt residue consistent with methamphetamine, along with baggy with a crystal substance.
The deputy also found a zip lock bag containing a dried plant material consistent with psilocybin mushrooms. Mark said that a friend gave them to him to hold onto.
Deputy Cox then spoke further with Kristy about drugs being found in the vehicle and asked her again if she had anything he would find. She admitted she would have some meth in her black backpack on the back seat.
The deputy pulled the backpack out of the vehicle and found a glass pipe with a crystal substance wrapped in cloth.
No further items were found in the vehicle.
Kristy and Mark were both placed under arrest for possession of a controlled substance, meth, possession of psilocybin, and possession of drug paraphernalia for the items used to facilitate the use of an illegal controlled substance.
Deputy Cox conducted a criminal history check of Kristy and it returned that she has two prior dangerous drug convictions within the last seven years. Her current offense is a felony.
Kristy and Mark were transported to the Duchesne County Jail.
