On Friday at 9:42 PM, a vehicle with a burned-out brake light was stopped at 1450 East 1750 South in Naples, Utah. In the vehicle were two habitual drug offenders.
The driver was identified as Brandon Robertson, and the passenger was identified as 41-year-old April Marie Patrick.
The deputy checked both their driver's licenses and found that April had an active warrant out of Naples Justice Court.
Due to past experiences with Brandon and April, Deputy Oldham had his K9 Sarik conduct a free-air sniff around the vehicle. Sarik alerted on the vehicle, indicating the likely presence of narcotics.
Deputy Oldham called for backup officers to assist with searching the vehicle.
During the search, Brandon admitted there was marijuana inside. A marijuana pipe was found in his pocket.
Although they didn't find the specific narcotics Sarik alerted to, it still established probable cause to search the vehicle, and interviews were conducted.
In an interview with April, she admitted to smoking methamphetamine the night before and told police she had methamphetamine in her pocket. The officers also found alcohol in April's purse, which she admitted was hers and that she had been drinking from.
April was arrested on her outstanding warrant and for the charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and having an open container.
Brandon was cited and released at the scene.
