At around 1:00 am, Deputy Green noticed a vehicle in his rear view mirror in the distance. He watched as the vehicle quickly got closer to his patrol vehicle. The deputy confirmed the vehicle's speed at 82 mph.

When the vehicle got behind the deputy, he noticed that it was driving with its high beams on. Deputy Green turned off the road to allow the vehicle to pass, and as it passed, he activated his emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop.

After he initiated his emergency lights, the vehicle continued to drive at a slow rate and then moved to the shoulder. The vehicle continued to drive, then stopped, then started to drive away again, finally coming to a stop.

Deputy Green approached the vehicle with several occupants inside. The deputy asked the driver for her driver's license; she stated that she didn't have one. The female provided her name and DOB to the deputy, and she was identified as 28-year-old Letha Ilene Beston.

When asked if she was on probation or parole, Letha shook her head. Yes, she was on parole.

Letha was asked to exit the vehicle and walked to the front of the patrol vehicle. Deputy Green ran a warrant check, which returned a Board of Pardons (BOP) no-bail warrant. Letha is also a registered sex offender. The vehicle she was driving was not under her sex offender registry. Letha was placed in handcuffs and put in the back of the patrol vehicle.

Because Letha was on parole, the vehicle was searched after the other occupants exited the truck.

When the other occupants were exiting, Deputy Cox could detect a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

During the search, Deputy Cox found multiple items consistent with drugs and drug paraphernalia. The items found included a yellow pipe with a green/burnt leafy-like substance consistent with marijuana, and a brown purse with one clear bag with a white crystal-like substance consistent with methamphetamine. In the center console near an ash tray, Deputy Cox found three pieces of tinfoil with a burnt substance on each piece of tinfoil consistent with Fentanyl.

All the items were seized for evidence, and Letha was transported and booked into the Duchesne County Jail for the Board of Pardons warrant.

The substance in the tinfoil was tested using a roadside NIK test, which indicated a presumptive positive for Fentanyl. Letha is being charged with one count of felony possession for the clear bag of methamphetamine, with two prior convictions for possession of a schedule I or II controlled substance in the last 7 years. One felony count of possession of the tinfoil with the burnt substance indicated a presumptive positive for Fentanyl.

One count of misdemeanor possession for the yellow pipe with the green/burnt leafy substance consistent with marijuana. One count of possession of drug paraphernalia. One felony count for failure to register as a sex offender. One count of speeding. One count of failure to dim headlights. One count of driving without a valid license/ never obtained.
