AP&P Agent Ercanbrack asked Agent McGaha to assist in a home visit. When they arrived, they saw a red truck pull in just after them.
27-year-old Shayla Rae Stone, who is on probation with AP&P, was in the passenger seat. She also had her 6-year-old daughter with her.
As the vehicle stopped, the 6-year-old ran straight into a shed or small block building used by Shayla as a residence. The agents watched the little girl enter the building as if she knew where she was going and had been there multiple times. She ran up the stairs to the bed area and came back down.
Shayla escorted the agents to the shed and then tried to have them go to the house where she also slept.
Upon entry to the block shed, in plain view, was a baggie with suspected psilocybin mushrooms. In a rose-colored lid on a bench was a green leafy substance known to be marijuana. Also, during the search, agents found a marijuana roach with a roach clip next to it on Stone's bed.
After the agents finished searching, Agent McGaha proceeded into the primary residence. He was talking with Shayla's mother, who stated that the 6-year-old plays in the shed with Shayla and has access to this area unaccompanied.
Agent McGaha placed Shayla in handcuffs and transported her to the Uintah County Jail.
While at the jail, Agent McGaha asked Shayla about her daughter's being in the shed and having access to it. She stated her daughter goes in the shed when she is there. Shayla said she was aware of the mushrooms and had purchased them but then stated she was unsure if they were psychedelic.
Agent McGaha had dispatch perform a criminal history check on Shayla, and it returned multiple prior convictions of possession of a controlled substance. This will enhance the possession of a controlled substance charge to a Felony 3.
Because the child has free access to open Psilocybin Mushrooms in a sandwich baggie and open exposure to these items, Shayla has been booked on the following charges:
Child Endangerment
Possession of a Controlled Substance Psilocybin Mushrooms
Possession of a Controlled Substance Marijuana
Possession of Paraphernalia
