At around 5:45 pm, the Roosevelt Police Department was dispatched to a traffic accident at 17 West US-40 involving a black Ford truck and a gray Pontiac G5.

When Officer Bird arrived on the scene the driver of the Pontiac stated that the other driver had run into the back of her then left the scene. The driver of the Pontiac stated that she got a picture of the license plate of the Ford truck that hit her and showed it to the officer.

Officer Bird ran the plate with dispatch, and it returned to an address Southeast of Roosevelt. The officer drove to the address and found the black Ford truck in the parking lot. He went to the door and knocked, and a male answered.

The officer could smell the odor of alcohol coming from the male as he slurred his words as he spoke. Officer Bird asked the male if he had been in an accident, and at first, he said no. The male did admit to drinking alcohol. He then stated that he had been driving but didn't think he had hit anyone.

Officer Bird then arrested the male and placed him in the back of his patrol vehicle. Officer Wheeler talked to him while he was in the vehicle and got his name, 34-year-old Chapeete Bahva Serawop.

Chapeete told Officer Wheeler that he had been drinking and driving and hit into the vehicle.

Chapeete was transported to the Roosevelt Police Department to perform a field sobriety test, which he did not pass. He then agreed to a breath test, which he blew a .0303.

He was then transported to the UBMC ER for a medical clearance and then to Duchesne County Jail.

While at the jail, Officer Bird ran a criminal check on Chapeete and found that he is an alcohol-restricted driver and has no valid driver's license; a check on his record found that he has had a DUI conviction within the last 10 years.

Chapeete is being charged with driving under the influence 2nd offense, alcohol-restricted driver, failure to comply with duties at a vehicle accident, and no valid license Infraction.
