During the days leading up to November 12th, a female and 53-year-old Mitchell Dean Reay was involved in a disagreement that had been taking place over text messages, phone calls, and in person.
On the morning of November 12th, at Mitchell's request, the female went to his residence to address their issue in person. This led to an argument in which the female became emotional and left Mitchell's residence crying, returning to her home.
Mitchell continued to contact the female by texting and trying to call. She told Mitchell to leave her alone and that she was done.
One of the text messages included a picture of a bullet in the female’s hand with the caption, "I'm done crying."
Mitchell took this to be a suicide threat and drove to the female's home, crashing through the front gate and damaging the gate and the opener. He also damaged the field when his truck got stuck near the second gate, which the female said was also damaged.
Mitchell then let himself into the residence and went through every room, looking for the female. When he didn't find her, Mitchell left the residence and walked to the shop, a short distance from the house.
Mitchell saw the female through the shop's window and pounded on the door. She didn't answer, so he kicked the door in.
The female said Mitchell was yelling, then grabbed her arms and pushed her back against a bench where she was cleaning a disassembled firearm and braced herself against the table.
Mitchell states he was trying to get a gun from the female that she drew, racked the slide, and pointed at him.
Mitchell stated he didn't push her against the workbench but instead reached around, grabbing her when she turned away with the gun. He also said there was a brief struggle.
The female then turned on Mitchell yelling and telling him to leave her “fucking” property.
Mitchell left the property upon contact with and direction from Law Enforcement.
