A Deputy Responds To A Woman Inside A Garage Going “Crazy.”

4/11/24

| Fruitland, Ut. | 4/5/24 | Aggravated Assault |

Deputy Cox responded to a report of a domestic on West Sawmill Rd in Fruitland, where the reporting party stated that a woman was inside the garage going crazy, throwing billiard balls, and hitting her husband.

While the deputy was en route, the complainant reported that 48-year-old Yolanda Del Carmen Miles started hitting her husband again, and dispatch could hear yelling in the background.

When Deputy Cox arrived on the scene, Yolanda was outside talking to another deputy while drinking a beer.

The deputies asked Yolanda what had happened, and she stated that the complainant always takes her husband's side. When asked why the police were at her residence, she wasn't forthcoming with anything that had occurred.

Yolanda's husband kept yelling that nothing happened and didn't want the incident investigated. The deputies told him that they were required to investigate any domestic incident report.

The complainant told Deputy Cox they were all sitting at the bar in the garage. The husband was on the opposite side of the bar, while the complainant and Yolanda were sitting on the bench seats.

Another woman's name came up, and Yolanda started to get an attitude and argue about it. The complainant said Yolanda reached over the bar, striking her husband. Yolanda walked over to the pool table, grabbed the billiard balls, and threw them at her husband, hitting the complainant in the shoulder.

The complainant’s boyfriend wrote in his statement that Yolanda was throwing billiard balls and beer cans.

Due to Yolanda throwing objects capable of causing severe bodily injury at the victim, who was her husband, as well as assaulting both the other parties in the home, Yolanda was placed under arrest for domestic violence aggravated assault, assault, and intoxication because she was a danger to herself and others.

Yolanda was transported and booked into the Duchesne County Jail.

“Upon arrival at the jail, I read Yolanda her Miranda Rights, which she stated she understood. I asked Yolanda to give her side of the story. Yolanda said her husband was disrespecting her, and she "Blew up."

"I asked her what she meant by saying she "Blew up.". She said that they were playing pool, and she started to throw the pool balls, but not at anyone. I asked her if anyone got physical with her. She said, "No". I asked her if she remembered hitting her husband when she was sitting at the bar. She said that she did. I asked her if she punched him or slapped him. She told me that she didn't honestly remember. I then advised her what she was being charged with, and she was booked into the jail." ~Deputy Cox
