A Deputy Asks A Driver To Exit His Vehicle During A Traffic Stop, He Slams The Door and Drives Off

Duchesne County—On April 1^st, 2026, a blue car traveling East on US-40 around milepost 101 caused a traffic violation, and Deputy Green stopped the vehicle.

He walked up to the vehicle and saw a male and female, with the male in the driver's seat. During the interaction with the driver, the deputy noticed his eyes were glossy, and his speech was slurred.

Deputy Green asked the driver to step out of his vehicle to perform field sobriety testing. The driver opened his door as if he was going to get out of the car, grabbed the window, slammed the door shut, put the car in drive, and drove away from the traffic stop.

Deputy Green pursued the vehicle for almost two miles before the vehicle came to a stop in the middle of the road. The driver tossed the car keys out the window and exited the vehicle.

The deputy ordered the driver to lie flat on the ground while he approached him to place the suspect in handcuffs. The driver said that he had been self-medicating, admitting to using methamphetamine. He proceeded to say that he was having a mental crisis.

The driver did not have identification on his person but identified himself as 27-year-old Aaron Michael Marriot.

Aaron admitted to using Meth earlier in the day and said he had a purple pipe under the driver's seat. The pipe was located and appeared to have a white crystal-like substance in it, consistent with Meth.

Aaron was transported to UBMC, where he consented to a chemical blood draw and received medical treatment. It was determined by Deputy Green that Aaron was driving under the influence with any measurable amount of a controlled substance in his system and was in actual physical control of a motor vehicle.

Aaron was later transported to the Duchesne County jail, where he was booked on the following charges: failure to respond to an officer's signal to stop; fleeing: knowingly or intentionally attempting to flee or elude a law enforcement officer by vehicle or other means. Driving under the influence with any measurable controlled substance in the body. Use or possession of a controlled substance Meth, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
