While Officer McGaha was entering 1500 E near 700 S, a vehicle traveling North was swerving back and forth in its lane of travel. The officer turned around and began to follow the car.
While behind the vehicle, Officer McGaha used his radar and observed the car was traveling 28 mph in a 45 mph zone. He continued to follow and observed the vehicle swerve two more times, crossing over the center line and into the turning lane. Based on these observations, Officer McGaha initiated a traffic stop at 1100 E and Highway 40.
Inside the vehicle was a male driver and an unknown female passenger. At the window, the officer could smell the odor of marijuana and alcohol.
On the center console was a large round container with a marijuana logo on it.
The driver was asked for his driver's license and proof of insurance and provided a Colorado license identifying him as 36-year-old Logan Tyler Burbridge.
Officer McGaha asked Logan to hand him the marijuana container. Upon opening it, there was a large quantity of marijuana flower inside.
Logan was asked to step out of the vehicle and perform voluntary Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFSTs). The officer asked what he had been drinking, and he stated he had a couple of Mountain Dew's and Captain Morgan rum.
After the failed SFSTs, Logan was asked to perform a Preliminary Breath Test (PBT) in case medical clearance was required. The PBT result was .114.
Logan was placed under arrest for DUI.
Officer McGaha returned to the vehicle to speak with the female and asked her to arrange for a ride. She stated a ride was already en route. She was also asked to take the dog with her, which she declined.
A search of the vehicle was conducted, and the officer found a multicolored marijuana pipe in the center console and marijuana flower scattered all over the passenger seat.
The officer ran a driver's license and a criminal history check on Logan, and the search returned:
Driver license out of Colorado: Suspended for non-payment of child support.
Criminal history: No prior DUI convictions.
Once the towing company arrived to impound Logan’s vehicle, Officer Boren with the Vernal Police Department assisted in placing the dog in the Animal Shelter.
Logan Burbridge was booked into the UCSO Jail on the following charges:
DUI (1st in 10 years)
Possession of Marijuana
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
Driving on a Revoked License
Logan Tyler Burbridge may post bail in the amount of $2,800.00.
